You Know You're a Bookaholic When...

I got this from DianneCastell

I thought that is was funny.

1) You haunt the bookstores waiting for that new release, and the clerks ask you if you'd like to set up a tent.

No, but I have a list of the books I want for the next year with when they come out and the ISBN number, to make it easy to order.

2) You pack all your books for a trip but forget your underwear.

I have not forgotten underwear but I have forgotten socks.

3) Before you buy a purse you make sure a paperback will fit inside.

I do not have a purse but when I made my jacket I made the pockets large enough to hold a paperback book.

4) You become murderous when you discover a friend lost a book you loaned her.

No, but I have made them buy me a new one and never lent a book to them again.

5) Your twin sons' names are Rhett and Ashley.

No children.

6) You look forward to jury duty because you'll have all that waiting time to read.

That or knit.

7) You call in sick so you can finish reading a book.

No but I have been late because I could not stop reading.

8) You can't pass a bookstore without stopping.

This I can do. Mostly because the books I want I have to special order.

9) When you move you have more boxes labeled "books" than anything else.

Yes. This makes it expensive to move.

10) You plan a day of shopping around all the bookstores you want to visit.

No but I do plan what yarn stores I go to. I went to Denver this weekend for a science fiction convention and I had directions to 2 different yarns stores.

11) Your kids holler from the other room with something they consider a dire emergency, and you say, "Wait until I finish this page."

No children.

12) Your car is broke down, and it doesn't really matter because your favorite bookstore is right across the street.

Not going to happen, I am still paying for the car. I would be more worried about how much book money will it take to pay to fix the car.

13) You're sitting in the bathroom at 1:30 a.m., crying over the ending of your current read, when you know you have to be up at six to drive 150 miles and spend the day on your feet before driving back.

I have done this.

14) You read at red lights and get honked at because you were so engrossed that you didn't notice the light had turned green.

The red lights where I am you can read 3 to 4 pages before it turns green.

15) It's 2am and you think "just another chapter" and do the same thing at 3am when you know you have to get up in 4 hours and work.

Yup.

16) You deliberately get to the bus/train station early, or even worse, just miss the bus/train so that you have more reading time.

Done this too.

17) Your significant other runs into the room to make sure you're alright because he heard you wailing so hard over a sad read he thought you were dying.

No but I have called up my sister to complain.

18) You try reading and walking at the same time.

On a treadmill this is posable.

19) You don't really mind if you get stranded anywhere as long as you have enough books while you're there.

True.

20) You start haunting your mail box when you're waiting for a new book to arrive and can't do anything useful until the mail has arrived.

I am online to see exactly where the book is now.

21) You start fabricating excuses as to why you can't go out with your friends when you're in the middle of a great book.

I have missed parties by sitting outside in the car reading just one more chapter.

22) You dash out and sit in the park and read during your lunch hour (or sneak in a few chapters at your desk).

Done this.

23) You start thinking of the characters as real people.

No, sometimes I wish that they were real people and I some times talk like they are real people but I know what is real and not.

24) You get a friend or relative hooked on romance so you'll have another place to get books, but unfortunately it doesn't work quite right and they start borrowing from you.

I did this this weekend. I am a pusher of books.

25) You start up conversations with people in the bookstore who just look like they're dying to read a good romance but are having a hard time finding one.

I have hand sold books this way.

The little bump on the left is a fire hydrant and the bump on the right is a mail box.

Dude, they shut down the interstate freeway. Here are some early morning pictures of my yard.

weather

I had planned to have today off for over 2 months. I had a Dr.'s appointment today. I had a dentist appointment today. Notice I said had. Yesterday it was over 50 degrees and sunny. Today there is a blizzard. And most everything is closed. If I am lucky my manager will call it a snow day and I will not have to take PTO for today. I do not want to drive anywhere. The fun part is Friday it is going to be over 50 and sunny. I am glad I have to drive to Denver tomorrow.
It will be a very wet muddy drive though. You know that it is bad when the local TV station is talking about the weather and saying do not drive. It is very bad when there are no adds. Even the news casters are not doing reports from on site.

Sick

I hate being sick. Last month I had what I thought was a cold, at the end I would go to blow my nose and nothing would come out. After a week of sinus pain I went to the Dr. She thought that I had a sinus infection, gave me antibiotics for 2 weeks, Nasonex and told me to take mucinex. At the end the pain went away.

How ever just 2 days after I was done with all of it the pain came back, and hurt worse.
So I went back to the Dr., I could not get her but was able to so the nurse practioner. When she looked up my nose it was so swollen and red that she could not see anything. She said that I needed to get my inner nose unswollen and had me take astilin, nasonex and claritin. The mix of astilin and claritin put me to sleep and made me hungry. After 2 weeks if it did not get better I was to come back.

It was not better after 2 weeks so I went back. This time they think that it is a chronic sinus infection and I am on antibiotics for 21 days. My nose was still swollen. If this does not help I am going to end up going to an ENT and an allergist. I just want it to stop having post nasal drip, stop hurting and to be able to blow my nose and have stuff come out.

knitting to be done in Oct

Knitting that needs to be done in October:

Fingerless gloves for my sister. I have been knitting and unknitting one for way to long. I think that I know have a pattern that will work, the main part in stockennet just did not look right. I am doing the body in the Sock of Doom pattern. I am almost to the ribbing. This in Socks That Rock yarn and it is great.

The socks that I have started or that are unmated. There are quite a few.
The toe up knee sock for me in Lornas Laces. I am almost done with one. I will be doing the mate in a different stich pattern. I got tiered of it. The first one was done with something from Sensational Knitted Socks.

Jaywalkers in
Cascade Sassy Stripes. I like the yarn, this will be my second pair of Jaywalkers. It makes a good sock to do while waiting, this time I am using an eye-of-partridge heel.

The start and finsh the mate to a mock crock sock I am making for one of my neices.

Finsh one and start the other
Hedera sock. This set I think that I will have to redo. It seems a bit loose. I am making it for someone with size 7 1/2 wide feet.

This seems like it will be enough. I know that I will start something else though. I also need to finsh my felted slippers. I have one done and felted. The other one just needs the second bottom done.

Thanksgiving

Yaaa! My parents and my brother with his fiance will be coming. Only my sister and her family will not make it. I am so excited. Now I need to start to figure out everything that I need to do. I am going to have Merry Maids come by on Wed. to clean. I would not get the house clean enough. I think that I will sleep on the couch and give my parents my bed. I have some twin bed mattresses I think that I will set them up in the craft room.

button

Lets see if I can get the button to work.

I am planing on using this to finsh some of the socks that I have half done.

socktoberfest

  • When did you start making socks? Did you teach yourself or were you taught by a friend or relative? or in a class?
I took a class. This was in May.

  • What was your first pair? How have they "held up" over time?
I never finished my first pair. I do not like the yarn at all. My second par were a set of Jaywalkers I made for my sister. She likes them.

  • What would you have done differently?
For my first pair I would have gone and bought good yarn. I was using a wool acrylic mix and I hate the feel of them.

  • What yarns have you particularly enjoyed?
Socks that rock and lorna's laces.

  • Do you like to crochet your socks? or knit them on DPNs, 2 circulars, or using the Magic Loop method?
I tend to use DPNs and then when I do the bottom of the foot I use 2 DPNs and one circular

  • Which kind of heel do you prefer? (flap? or short-row?)
I only know how to do the flap heel. I am trying to learn how to do the short row.

  • How many pairs have you made?
3 complete ones and 2 that are lonely.
